Over the past few generations we have added almost 80,000 new man-made chemicals into our environment. Many of you already know that certain foods can throw off our hormonal balance such as the hormone laden conventional milk & meat products or estrogen mimicking soy products.
What you might not realize is that the products we use every single day that we assume are safe might be negatively affecting our endocrine system and hormonal health. Our bodies are amazingly resilient but at the same time very finely tuned. These estrogen-mimicking chemicals can affect our mood, libido, energy levels, fertility, and PMS for women, to name a few.
These dangers come in the products that we package our food in, the lotions we rub in our body and what we drink our water out of. It’s important to reduce our chemical burden so that our bodies, hormonal & endocrine systems can function properly without working in constant overtime to rid itself of these foreign substances. Below are the four most common ones to be aware of.
.
1 – Plastic – BPA found in plastic is an endocrine disrupting chemical that has been shown to mimic the female hormone estrogen. It’s so bad that some people have termed bottled water ‘estrogen water’. If you have to use plastic make sure it does not sit in the sun, which leaches even more BPA in your water.
In a report published in the Journal of the American Medical Association in 2008, Frederick S. vom Saal, Ph.D., and colleagues conducted a large major epidemiologic study examining the health effects of BPA, and found a significant relationship between urine concentrations of BPA and cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and liver-enzyme abnormalities. He recommended the U.S. declare BPA a toxic chemical requiring aggressive action to limit human and environmental exposures.
Buy glass water bottles and containers. Avoid plastics marked with #7, especially if you are pregnant. Look for #1, #2 & #4 if you don’t have an alternative. For those with children use pacifiers and toys that are BPA free!
.
2- Canned goods – The aluminum lining of canned goods leaches into our food, especially in acidic products such as tomatoes. On top of the aluminum (which would not be on the top of my ingredient list!) recent tests have shown that BPA is also leaching out of canned goods into the food we are eating. Think soda and beer cans as well!
Use BPA free canned food from Eden Organic, choose glass, frozen or even better make dinner from scratch!
.
3- Perfume– Conventional perfume is loaded with chemicals. Look up some ingredients in your perfume, if you can even find the ingredients, and check out the warnings. You will be amazed. One for example benzaldehyde is found not only in perfume but cologne, hairspray, laundry bleach, deodorant, detergent, shampoo, etc. It is a narcotic, sensitizer, CNS depressant, potential irritant to the mouth, throat, eyes skin, lungs and GI tract and may cause kidney damage. That’s just one ingredient. Truly shocking.
Use organic scented oils instead. They smell amazing, are pure and generally cost less! Win, win, win J
4- Clothing & How you Clean Them! – NPEs (Nonylphenol elthoxylate) is a surfactant used to make clothing and is an endocrine-disrupting chemical that is accumulating in our environment. When our bodies absorb NPEs it cannot tell the difference between the NPE and estrogen, causing potentially serious issues.
When rainbow trout are exposed to NPEs they become part male and part female and while this has not been recorded in humans, extensive exposure could cause serious problems. Let me repeat that again. Part male and part female! And we aren’t concerned that this
chemical is affecting our hormonal health? Many household cleaning supplies & detergents contain NPEs as well.
Buy organic or second hand clothes, fix clothes instead of throwing them out or spend the money on clothing that will last. Wash your clothes with green products that say No NPEs on the label, along with no Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) which is also heavily used in cleaning products as a surfactant.
It’s alarming that we have introduced so many chemicals into our environment and have very little regulations as to what chemicals are on the label. Especially when the chemicals have not been tested thoroughly. The chemicals that we cannot see affecting us are what we need to be most conscious of.
Now you might be thinking I may lose some friends if I get rid of my perfume, and change my cleaning products, but I promise the natural products work just as well, in my opinion, even better than conventional.
Start with one change. Look for cleaner, organic brands, buy a glass water bottle, scented oil, or a clean laundry detergent. One change makes a huge difference over time and you may just notice your hormonal issues clearing up as well.

nice stuff about medical science and services.
I appreciate people who care about the rest of us. Without your discoveries, I guess we would continue to doctors, who are in bed with the rest of the bureaucrats.
This is truly a nice work you are doing by educating the general public about the dangers of using the modern products and/or product packages which damage our health. Do continue to work in this line and I wish you all the success in this attempt. Do send such worthy mails and/or articles to me regularly.
The modern scientific view on transgendered people is that gender variation is caused by the mother’s hormones being disrupted from the normal pattern in pregnancy whilst the baby is still in the womb. As a result key hormonal signals that change the brain to be appropriate to that of the body may not occur. In short, you child is born trans because your hormones where out of whack while pregnant (see http://www.gires.org.uk/polution.php for scientific papers on this).
Outright transsexualism is a more known form of gender variance. There are many people other types from chromosomal changes to behavioural ones. As a gay friend of mine rightly said, we’re not breeding but our numbers are increasing. Why?
Just to clarify – I think gay and trans people have always existed. I just think that the numbers that there are now and the rate at which that part of the population is growing are above what history shows to be normal. I don’t think that a more accepting society and greater media awareness are the factors driving this growth although both are welcomed. People don’t become gay because the media now treats gays less harshly and people don’t change gender because society is more understanding. Those people were born with a disposition that way. And all this goes without mentioning the many studies showing the damage these hormone disruptors are having on aquatic and amphibious life.
I think the four things you’ve listed above are part of the reason but I also think that the contraceptive pill/HRT also has a huge part to play in this. And as much as we at home can try to use glass and avoid petrochemical based fabrics, the real truth is that industry is spilling tons and tons of these chemicals into the water and air daily. We need some serious reform of the processes by which chemicals are allowed to be released into this Earth. It’s the only place we have left to live and I just feel that the mainstream is doing a great job of avoiding a very real issue that needs to be addressed urgently. Thank you for bring it up Brenna
I really appreciate this information. I am now 84 years old and since 1950, when I met Dr. N. W, Walker who taught that we should eat raw fruits and vegetables, I have been aware of health issues. I now grow as much of my own food as I can, using compost for fertilizer and no poisons. We spray our fruit trees using hydrogen peroxide in water. It is sad that our government is not aware of the health dangers they approve of.
I was not aware of the dangers in detergents, or on new clothes. I am happy to know about canned foods and how to be aware of the aluminum in the cans. Thanks.
I agree with everything Brenna wrote. We are a chemical world. With over 80,000 chemicals in our environment, we are on overload. Growing our own food is one alternative wherever possible and also buying organic. I’ve learned to wash in cold water always and hang my clothes outside to dry in the nice fresh air. My family has also been very fortunate to find a wellness company to buy all our household products from. They are free of harsh toxins that has made a huge difference in the health of our family. If anyone wants more information on how to shop for those, I would be pleased to help you with that. My website is listed above for your convenience….We can all do something better to save Mother Nature and be healthier. That’s what I wish for everyone!!
This information has been around for years. However, Big Pharma makes so much money that they try to hide the damage. Let me qote from Dr. Guylaine Lanctot’s book, The Medical Mafia. “The mortality rate from cancer has increased. Millions of people have been tortured. Maiming is commonplace. Nobody escapes it. Patients have to choose between one or more forms of mutilation; amputation =surgery; burning=radiation; poisoning=chemotherapy.” She continues, “The existence of alternative remedies is either hidden from the public or access to them forbidden. Remedies that are effective, safe and inexpensive. Those who promote them are hunted down. It is like the witch hunt of the Middle Ages.” A parma sales rep told me that she was told “that the flu vaccine didn’t work but they were to push it anyway because people would get sick and buy their drugs”. Again, quoting from Dr. Lanctot’s book, “Our immune system has systematically been destroyed by the presence of many carcinogenic products, such as pesticides, vaccines, radiations, medications in water, air, foodstuffs and elsewhere in the environment.” I love it where she writes, “….the establishment of Cancer and Associates: 1)make us believe in the fatality of cancer, in our helplessness in the face of the illness, in our dependence on the authorities and their treatments.2) distract us from the real causes of the illness. Pollution, poverty, medications, vaccines 3)deflect all funds for research, treatment, and medication to their own profit 4)eliminate all competition which could threaten to destroy their financial interests. AND we foot the bill. Blessings
