A little over a week ago I announced that we were talking to a celebrity about having him come on board to support getting the message of our film “Simply Raw: Reversing Diabetes in 30 Days” out to the public. I thought I’d let you know who he is since he announced it on the green carpet of the “Avatar Home Tree Event” on Earth Day!  :)

So the celebrity who is now supporting our team is four time NBA champion, talk show host and vegan John Salley.

John was recently on the Dr. Oz show, “The Doctors” show, the Rachel Ray show and the Brian McKnight show.  He was also the host of “The Best Damn Sports Show” for six years.  He’s also been in movies such as “Bad Boys”, “Bad Boys II”, “Confessions of a Shopaholic” and “Mr. 3000″… just to name a few.

I met with John when he was in New York City a couple weeks ago and I saw right away that he is an amazing guy with a lot of passion.  He really wants to help people get healthy!  His own father had diabetes and he watched as a child as he suffered with the disease.

One of the producers of the film, Michael Bedar, gave him a copy of the film about a month ago and as John told me when I met him “It instantly got his attention.”  He told me he watched it as soon as he got back to his hotel room that night and that his first reaction was that he loved it and knew he had to be a part of getting it out to the public.

So I’m happy to announce that John will now be supporting the “Simply Raw” team!  I’m posting several videos about John and his TV and movie appearances in case you don’t know him and everything he has done in his amazing career both on and off the court.

If you have any comments for John please feel free to write them below as I’m sure he’d love to read them!  :)

  4. Hi John,

I am a Nutritional Therapist and author of books on health. I am delighted to hear that you’re so passionate about getting the healthy eating message across. Being a vegan myself I am of the same frame of mind.

    Many thanks John,

    Dave

  5. Julie says:

    Welome John

I hope that you enjoy being with Raw Foods

I’m thriving on it. Lost 17kg_37+ pounds

and feeling pretty good. As Dr. Cousens says,

it will take 2 years for entire results_ full benifits

    to be experienced.

  6. PERFECT! If we could get John Salley, Woody Harrelson, Alicia Silverstone, Demi Moore and some of the other “stars” to do an entire campaign geared toward our youth, I believe we could turn this SAD-eating, overweight country around!!!

  7. Wonderful news and congratulations to you both. John is a fantastic role model for young men and challenges the stereotype that you have to eat meat to grow up big and strong! We wish you great successes together.

What a great guy! If you’re in L.A. on 5/16/10, John Salley will be at World Fest in the San Fernando Valley.

I’ve noticed that the overwhelming majority of people that I meet who are vegan have really wonderful personalities and attitudes… yes, Mr. Sally your are no different. I’m really hoping that you will really, really be beneficial in regard to also alerting your community to the need to become proactive with our health. Welcome!

  10. Evita says:

Great stuff to hear John is joining this awesome team!

I think it is so fantastic too, to hear more about popular personalities being vegan, and healthy and athletic. What a great way to spread an important message and inspire others.

Looking forward to this exciting venture!

A dear friend of mine was recently diagnosed with diabetes. I sent him the link to the ‘Raw Foods’ trailer. He was blown away by it, which propelled him on to taking action. His blood sugar levels are now on the way down. So Mr Sally, I know that you will do your best to get the word out. And make sure that you come down to New Zealand too.
    Thanks, Helen

  12. Marissa says:

I saw John Salley on my favorite Dr. Oz show and am delighted he is our “poster boy” for the ultimate in healthy eating. Thanks to all who are putting energy into this challenge to improve the nutrition in our nation – one inspiration for one person at a time will certainly gain momentum. At age 75 I have had to learn many nutrition lessons the hard way, but now value each day as an opportunity to improve my heart health and release the weight of my obesity.

  13. KaiJeffree says:

awesome, I’m getting inspired to eat more & more raw and
perhaps heal my 38 yr. old son Ryan of diabetes.

    great inspiration and info’

Woot! This is great news! John Salley is awesome! Does he eat a lot of raw foods?

  15. Whoops- Does he eat a lot of raw or does he just do mostly cooked vegan? Interested to know what his diet is like!

  16. Roberta says:

I think it is great that he is coming on board. I am at 56 just now realizing that I need to change my eating habits. It will be good for children to see a role model that they can follow without worry. I have ordered the film and will be doing a screening for friends.

  17. Arlenna Thurman says:

    Mr. Salley,
You are a very cool person. Thank you for sharing your positive words on health. Thank you for showing people how to love their children and family. You have a great sense of humor!(Loved your Star Wars videos) Thank you for not being ashamed to tell people what happens to the animals and why it is not healthy for the world to eat meat. I think my son would listen to you. You rock!

  18. I am so glad to see the message going out to a wide audience and in a variety of venues. I also teach a vegan diet and believe it not only provides personal hope for those who want to prevent serious health issues but also a great hope for our nation as we get more and more people following a vegan or vegetarian lifestyle because this is the only reasonable answer to the challenges of this country’s health (disease) care system. Keep up the good work.

  19. Shirley says:

I just LOVE John Salley. What a fantastic personality he has. I hope we get to see lots and lots more of him-in the “vegan” world and in the “not yet vegan” world.

  20. sasha says:

I had just seen him on Dr. Oz a couple of weeks ago talking about eating healthy. He was sharing some recipes that he eats. I think that is very positive.

  21. Cheryl says:

    Awesome news!

  22. apryl says:

That is terrific! Now hopefully all those friends who say, “you can’t build muscle on that kind of diet!” will listen to him and BELIEVE!!!!! :0)

  23. Traci says:

Thank you John, SO MUCH for joining the team!! Im really hoping I can use you to influence my fiance who’s right on the verge of deciding to try the raw/vegan lifestyle. I think the men are the hardest to convince and you will be a great force for us to convince them!
    Peace…Traci

  24. rainbow says:

fabulous news. this is the kind of news i need to hear. so much better than the violence and hatred and wars that most news sadly consists of. this is news i love. thanks for all the good efforts on so many people’s parts, and most especially thank you john salley for being such a marvelous role model, and clearly a superb human being. peace to you and to ALL life! aho

  25. Merideth says:

Everyone is welcome to join the team whose goal is reversing diabetes. Sports stars are role models for so many. I hope his message will reach sports fans everywhere, since the watching of sports so often includes unhealthy eating like chips, beer, and barbecued meat. I also hope that those who watch this fine film are inspired to read Dr. Cousens’ fine book, There Is A Cure For Diabetes (coauthored by Rainoshek), which explains the science so well that anyone who pays attention can understand it. It should also be our goal to eliminate government subsidies for unhealthy food — NO MORE subsidies for corn, soy, GMOs of any type. Get involved! Health and peace.

  26. sue sargent says:

i think you are great stuff john, loved the videos.

  27. Adrienne says:

    Hi John,
Welcome from an Australian! What a lovely fellow – I hope you get lots of Raw food too John. You won’t believe the difference. You will make a wonderful addition to the team.
    Keep happy!

  28. Betty says:

How do I get your clips to play? The black screens stay that way even when I push play. I’d really like help to allow my husband to get rid of his diabetes.

  29. Ellen says:

    Welcome John,
Thank you for all your doing to promote a Raw Living Life style.
    Many Blessings,

  30. anita denard says:

I wish to thank John Salley and Congresswoman Kilpatrick for their efforts to get healthy food in our schools. And we also want to get more information to parents on how important it is to also eat healthy food at home.

  31. lina sims says:

awesome awesome!! I am sooo excited!

  32. Charline says:

    Welcome John!
Thanks you for walking your talk & including your family.

Maybe now that you’re on board, more coaches & teachers will listen.

They are in touch almost daily with our nation’s youth, of which over 50% are currently reported to be obese!

The youth are the ones that most need our guidance about healthy eating. As they get healthier, they can influence their folks, since many of them have been unsuccessful in living a healthy lifestyle, themselves.

We need to do all we can to turn around the fact that this generation will be the 1st in our nation’s history to live a shorter lifespan than their parents!

  33. Bronwyn says:

Hi from New Zealand. Got my Simply Raw DVD in the mail and can’t begin to tell you how wonderful it is! I am so glad I purchased this. My neice has type 1 diabetes so I have purchased this for my brother and his wife to watch. I know it will help her. Thanks so much.

  34. Ada says:

I’m so inspired to join the healthy team of veganers. I’ve already started to convert my eat habits slowly with doing the juicing that I really love. It’s exciting to feel so healthy and energised since I began this new way of eating by just reading-up on your Website. I’m still waiting for my DVD to arrive in the mail.
Thank you for your dedication to healthy eating.

  35. Pamela Melcher says:

So happy to hear this. Thank you, John.

You refute the argument that vegans are wimpy!

The world needs to hear this truth so badly.

  36. Joel says:

John Salley has a great personality. I have watched him from his basketball through his talk show spots. Always intelligent perspective and great delivery. He will help the better eating movement move forward and get better accepted by a larger audience of people.
