Heather Pace and Philip McCluskey stopped by my house a few weeks ago and we recorded this great video on how to make a raw apple pie.  Heather is a raw chef who specializes in raw deserts.  I just finally got around to uploading it for you!

This recipe is one of the easiest raw desert recipes to make.  It also tastes amazing!  Enjoy and let us know you think by leaving your comments below!  :)

Apple Raspberry Pie Recipe

Crust:
2 cups pecans
1 cup walnuts
¾ cup pitted and packed, medjool dates

1. In a food processor, combine all ingredients until they become crumbly. Press half of the mixture into a 9” pie plate.

Filling:
2 cups raspberries

6 medium sized apples, separated
½ cup pitted and packed, medjool dates
¼ cup raisins
2 tsp cinnamon

1. Sprinkle the raspberries over the pie crust.
2. Peel and core all apples.
3. In a food processor, puree 2 of the apples, and remaining ingredients, until smooth. Pour this mixture into a bowl.
4. Chop the other 4 apples into large chunks and then process into small chunks in a food processor, making sure NOT to puree it into applesauce! Add to the puree.
5. Spread this filling into the pie crust.
6. Top with the remaining pie crust, sprinkling it over the tip like crumble.

  3. Good to see you young ones having a good time making a dessert; you know more that I did at your age. I have a VitaMix Super 5400. I make green and fruit smoothies for my friend and myself. I wondered why the apples that were used didn’t have some oxidation, it doesn’t take long for that to happen. We keep to minamal sweet laden food. However, unchopped apples are great to bite into and are very nutritious.

  7. I can’t wait to try this! My husband and I are new to raw and we are very excited with our early results. Great to see the details of the preparation!

  8. NICE RECIPE!

I always add just a dash of celtic sea salt or Himalayan salt to the nut crust, plus more cinnamon, this gives it a truly, authentically crusty mouth-feel and taste! Also a teaspoon or so of fresh lemon juice added to the filling really gives a wonderful lift to the fruit flavors and keeps the apples in a fresher state – they won’t turn as brown as fast!
Just a few tweaks! Love the E BOOK! Thank YOU ALL! pooz!

  9. Thank you! This is amazingly simple and tasty! I loved the pie! It came out great. Alex – thank you so much for posting the video!

  10. Just wondering…there are only two of us and to eat the pie all at once would be too much of a sugar high (though I guess we would be tempted). Can this pie be frozen without making the apples weird?
I guess I could cut the recipe in half but we probably would be looking for leftovers the next day. What do you think?

    Comment by Lorrie — June 22, 2010 @ 4:12 pm

  11. Thank you all, glad you enjoyed!

Lorrie – you can half the recipe and I assure you there would be leftovers for the second day, but freezing is not an option due to the high water content of the apples.

  12. I just saw your Raw Apple Pie recipe and I will try it out. I’m just becoming interested in raw food, but most of what I find on the internet is deserts, not real meals.
Maybe after I attend some Meetups I will see what else is out there.

  14. Hello
I really enjoy your cooking class. I just would like to ask you a question ? I have fooed allegies to some nut and fruits, want do you recommend, and people who need to be on a wheat free and gulten free dite, Do you have any recipt for the people who suffer with this?

    Comment by Alice Sutton — June 22, 2010 @ 11:17 pm

  15. I’m interested in your ebook but need to know if most of the recipes contain coconut as I am horribly allergic and have wasted money before on books I can’t use. Thank you

    Comment by Sharlee — June 22, 2010 @ 11:24 pm

  16. I have a daughter who is deathly allergic to nuts. Do you have a way of preparing the crust of the rasberry apple pie without the walnuts?

  17. Great videos. I have never been so excited about food before. Keep up the great work. Eating Raw is like a new way of living with new energy to burn. Ross & Helen.

  18. Is this e-book also available as a hand-held book? (You know, the old-fashioned kind, with pages that can be turned, get spills on, totally loved over the years.) Those are the books I want.

    Comment by Laura — June 23, 2010 @ 6:38 am

  19. Ohhh, my gosh! This apple pie was so easy to make and so delicious! But I controlled myself and brought most of it to work to share with co-workers today!

    Comment by Mira — June 23, 2010 @ 11:21 am

  20. Fun video to watch. For me, however, so many nuts means a high fat dessert. It would be interesting to see how many calories per serving and the percentage of fat. From what I can tell, there is more fat in one serving than I would normally consume in several days. I would rather eat a bowl of chopped apples and berries with just a few nuts on top. (I would skip the dates; they are too high in sugar!) A quicker meal with less fuss and healthier too.

  21. I believe I could enjoy your recipes but I’m on a very limited income and I am having challenges with my health (diabetes)and some other health challenges. Keep up the beautiful work.

  22. This looks really fabulous. Does your ebook have a recipe for just plain chocolate mousse using avocados?

  23. Thanks so much for sharing this incredible looking recipe! Apple and raspberry must be a wonderful combination in the pie :)

  27. Looks great. The last raw apple pie I made (with many ingredients) looked beautiful, but was a heavy, pasty disaster. This looks less dense. Blessings on your book. You’ll make it BIG in this world of dessert lovers.

  28. Loved it!!!!!!!! Thanks again for an awesome idea for raw cooking, love desserts and this one is delicious. Mad a few modifications each time I made it. Substituted strawberries and added Stevia are a few changes which you might want to try. Please keep them coming and thanks again!
